Event Recap: 30th anniversary celebration of Guerlain Meteorites

Two weeks ago, I was invited to Guerlain's spectacular event in Downtown Toronto to celebrate the 30th anniversary/birthday of their Météorites. For those of you who don't know, the Météorites are beautiful multi-colored powder pearls (literally, they look like pearls) housed in a gorgeous silver box. The pearls are scented with a light violet fragrance which adds an extra touch of femininity.

Strobing and highlighting is all the rage right now, but did you know that Guerlain was one of the original companies who started this back in 1987? The Météorites contain a secret Stardust technology - a light-creating polymer which transforms light invisible to the naked eye into a beautiful glow on the skin. These pearls contain a mix of matte, rosy and radiant blue-toned white pearls, combined with different color correcting pearls which come in yellow (to counter redness), pink to refresh and mauve to add brightness.

There were cocktails and sweets at the event and as you can see from the pictures below, they were too cute and pretty to eat! I finally caved and had a macaron and a cheesecake and omg.....they were divine! That cheesecake, please .. if I had a box, I'd pack a few with me :) heh..

The ceiling was adorned with balloons that replicated the Météorites.

Guerlain also brought their talented make-up / beauty artists who took the time to give people touch-ups :) Ah, the vanity below - #goals!

Besides touch-ups, we were all gifted goodie bags that contained the Météorites primer as well as the infamous Météorites box... that was empty. What came next was the highlight of the evening - we had the chance to create a custom blend of Météorites for ourselves to address our individual desires. I wanted to add radiance to my skin and the below honestly, this blend helped me realize how great this product was. Before, I wasn't using the right shade so I didn't see the fuss about it - but after trying it, I really looked like I was airbrushed after application, I had this ethereal glow to my skin unlike any other product had given me. I strongly suggest that you give these a try! These babies, though pricey, do last you a really long time as you only need a swirl of it with your brush and its enough for your whole face.

Tip: Make sure you apply it in a G shape on your face - that way it helps to highlight all the high points of your face - the forehead, cheek, nose, cupid's bow and a bit of the chin if you want.

Thank You Guerlain for this wonderful invite and to share in this event with you!
Until next time, XO - M.

2016 Holiday Gift Guide: Perfumes

Hello my lovely readers, I'm back after taking a week off. I just really needed to take some time off to myself and unplug, refresh before the upcoming busy holiday season. There's a lot going on in my personal life, maybe one day I'll share it but for now, let's stick to the up and coming holiday season! I have decided to compile a few holiday gift guide ideas for all of you and focus them on different things each time - for e.g. this is all on perfumes! Next will be skincare, cosmetics, etc. In each gift guide segment, I will also include items from different price points so that none will feel left out :)

Perfumes are a really personable item to purchase for someone - there are actually a few "perfume sampler" packs you can purchase at Sephora and Shoppers Drug Mart that allow the individual receiving it to try out various fragrances to see which one is best suited for them. My favorite one would have to be the one offered by Shoppers Drug Mart - you usually get samples of a few perfumes and the best part is you actually get a gift certificate to exchange for one full sized perfume that you've tried out from the sampler box. This is a sure way to please the individual you are gifting it to, as they will definitely find something they like in the sampler box and to then be able to get a full sized bottle allows them to basically choose their own perfume :)

Below I've included a list of some fragrances that I personally love, and I've included a few that I just received as PR that I think would be a good fit to this Holiday Gift Guide segment  :)

First off, DIOR perfumes - my very first perfume purchased from Dior was the Dior Addict 2, which sadly was limited edition. Ever since, I have been on a hunt for something similar and I think the most similar one is the Dior Addict Eau Fraiche($95 for 50ml). It contains notes of Bergamot, Grapefruit, Orange, Freesia, Lily of the Valley, Lotus Flower, Pineapple, Watermelon, Grenadine, Sandalwood, White Musk - so if you love a perfume with a fruity note and a slight hint of floral, you will really like this. I give this 7/10.

Next from Dior, if you are feeling extra luxurious, you can purchase the Miss Dior Silky Body Mist * ($69 for 100ml) or the Miss Dior Hair Mist *($59 for 50ml).The Body Mist is is lightweight and not greasy. It is ultra luxurious, and the reason I say that is because this is said to moisturize your skin. And I mean, I am not personally about to spray my entire body with this (as it is still a scented product, I don't want to overwhelm anyone). However, it really is quite hydrating! The scent doesn't last strong all day, it does start fading after 3-4 hours, but there is a subtle linger after. (8/10) The Dior Hair Mist really is meant for the hair - while I would never purchase this for myself, I think that this is a really beautiful gift to give someone. You spray it in your hair (after you style to add a hint of flirtiness OR at the end of the day to deodorize your hair too if need be). When I wear it throughout the day and if my hair sways or flips, I sometimes get a scent of it and I love it :) (8.5/10)

I'm sure that you have seen lots of perfumes created by or in collaboration with celebrities, and while I used to knock them, I found a perfume I have loved since I was in University? So that would have to be Jennifer Lopez - Live (you can find it now for around $20). I was right! It was launched in 2005 - so that's a good 11 years ago! I have repurchased this scent now twice and will continue to do so! (Which reminds me, I need to get a backup ASAP!) It contains notes of Sicilian lemon, bergamot, pineapple, red currant, peony, violet, sandalwood, Tonka bean and caramel. I'm sure you can tell by now I do love my fruit toned scents :) (7.5/10).

I was sent two different fragrances for review recently, which were also made in collaboration with celebrities which I thought I could include in the Holiday Guide. These perfumes would definitely be a good gift for people that are fans of these celebrities - a good gift idea would be to maybe get them one of their most recent CD or DVD release (or even their holiday album) and pair it with their perfume as well!

Michael Buble - By Invitation*($46/50ml) which contains notes of red fruits, bergamot, lily of the valley, elegant rose, wild jasmine and spicy peony. It contains a warm base note of sandalwood-musk and vanilla praline. This is more of a mature fragrance, and though there is the note of vanilla praline, it is quite subtle. I would think that the floral and sandalwood is stronger and the vanilla is just the subtle sweet creamy note in the end that brings it together. This is not an everyday fragrance, but more of a special event or date night one. (6.5/10).

Britney Spears - Private Show *($45/50ml) This perfume is said to be inspired by Britney's favorite scents which includes crème coffee, clementine, juicy nectarine, dulche de leche, orange flower, jasmine sambac, luminous amber, and sensual musks. I would have to say that personally, I do not smell the fruity notes of clementine and juicy nectarine and orange flower. This fragrance is very sweet and warm, and the notes of coffee come in at the end. No, you will not smell like a coffee shop, but you will smell very sweet and this does last for about 5 hours. I would say that this is more geared towards the younger crowd. This is not my particular cup of tea (3.5/10).

Guerlain - Pera Granita ($75/75ml) - I purchased this during this year's Sephora VIB Sale in November. This was limited edition and alot of stores are sold out already, hence I had to get this one ASAP. I couldn't find this on Sephora online anymore, good thing they had it at Sephora Vaughan Mills. It contains notes of bergamot, grapefruit, lemon, pear, osmanthus, apricot, cedar, moss, white musk. It is refreshing, crisp, clean and fruity with a citrus finish. I am so in love with this perfume that I am so afraid to use it as it is limited edition, as previously mentioned. However, you also don't want this to go bad, so I decided to just go ahead and use it. This never gets old and makes me so happy when I use it and especially youthful. (9/10).

To me , scents always evoke a specific memory or special event and when I wear it, it just brings me back to that exact time and moment. Jo Malone fragrances are higher in pricing, but delivers a high quality fragrance unlike any other. When you wear it, or smell it on someone, you don't ever get a "oh, that's so + so...", it's unique and whenever I do wear it, I get compliments and asked what it is. I've introduced a few friends to Jo Malone fragrances, and while the price tag is higher than the others, they do end up usually buying one :) All you need is 1-2 sprays and it lasts all day. I have three Jo Malone fragrances in total and each one brings me back to a specific memory.

Jo Malone - English Pear & Freesia ($130/100ml) - My first JM fragrance was purchased in Tokyo, and everytime I use it I just think back to those 3 weeks I spent in Asia with my husband and parents. The primary note of pear is combined with quince, followed by honey sweetness and white freesia and rose. Finally, other notes include rhubarb, patchouli, amber and white musk.

Peony & Blush Suede ($65/30ml) - My second purchase, reminds me of the peonies in my wedding bouquet. Notes include red apple, peony, jasmine, carnation and rose with a base note of suede.

Wood Sage & Sea Salt ($65/30ml) - My most recent addition to my collection from last Christmas, gifted by my best friend. It contains notes of ambrette seed, sea salt and sage, along with red algae and grapefruit.

This is a warmer perfume with notes of dark plum, baccarat rose and mysterious patchouli. While I don't naturally gravitate to fragrances with patchouli and rose I really enjoyed this. The plum offers a note of fruitiness that brings it more to my liking. The price point is also really good as well and it delivers about 4 hours of staying power. (7.5/10)

Lastly, for the younger crowd or those who prefer a lighter scent, the body mists are a really good option to go for. The Avon Ultra Sexy Body Mist Collection($20 for 3x150ml is a really good deal). Online, they are showing the sale price, so hurry up and get it as prices are subject to change! (unfortunately, I have no control over that! sorry).

The set features three different scents:
Ultra Sexy Heart Body Mist : Cherries, rose petals and chocolate marshmallow
Ultra Sexy Pink Body Mist: Raspberry, peony and chiffon musk
Ultra Sexy Lace Body Mist: Pear, magnolia and golden amber.

My favorite of the three would have to be Ultra Sexy Pink Body Mist followed by Ultra Sexy Lace Body Mist. Again, with the fruity notes, peony and subtle floral scents with a final lingering warm note of amber or chiffon musk. Ultra Sexy Heart Body Mist is more of a nighttime wear and is a bit sweet for my personal liking. For $20 these are a great deal and you can even buy them and split it up and gift them to your friends and family.

This gift set contains 4 separate 75 ML body sprays and is valued at $9.99, available for purchase at Shoppers Drug Mart. This set is called the So...? Smashbox Couture.

While I have to admit that the packaging doesn't scream luxury, I am actually quite loving these as a spray I can pop into my gym bag. The scent is very light and gives you a refresher if you don't have time for a shower. Also, because it is rather faint and has a shorter life span, this is quite suitable for the teen in your life that is looking to dabble into some fragrances. You can find these at Walmart or at Shoppers Drug Mart.

I'm sorry this post is so long!! But I really wanted to include some options in different scent and price ranges for my readers! I hope you enjoyed this and come back next week to see what's in store for the next 2016 Holiday Gift Guide edition!

Until next time, XO - M.

*Much thanks to fragantica.com for the reference material on the notes included in perfumes - please note that this post is not sponsored by fragrantica, I just did alot of research on that site regarding the perfumes. In addition, items sent for my consideration are marked with a * - all opinions are honest and mine.

Purple Smokey Eye ft. all Clinique Products*

Last year, when Clinique released their cheek pops and I had the chance to try out how amazing they were, I have to admit that it was the moment I wanted to explore more into their cosmetics line. In years past, I was always a fan of their skincare,  but their make-up never really captured my attention, not sure why. But since I tried out the cheek pops, I was hooked and wanted to try everything else. And to be honest, the cheek pops were just the beginning of an amazing series of make-up items that were launched (all shown above). For e.g. the Pop Lips, foundation, palette, mascara and liners.

On the face:
I prepped my skin with the Clinique Pep-Start Hydroblur Moisturizer* ($39), it is to me, a moisturizer and primer in one. It hydrates the skin properly and also has a feeling of those smoothing primers - the ones with the dimethicone feeling which is great as I don't need to reach for another primer to do this. It is a great 2-in-1 product.

I then applied the new Clinique Superbalanced Silk Foundation* ($33) to my face - it is a medium coverage foundation that is buildable to full. It also contains SPF which means that I do not have to worry about forgetting to apply SPF beforehand. I find that it gives a satin finish without being streaky at all. This is the type of foundation that looks better as the day goes as like the name of the product suggests, it is "superbalanced". That means that it will provide moisture to areas that need it, and absorbs oil in the areas needed to as well. For e.g. I have an oily t-zone, but when I wore this product, my t-zone never looked greasy and shiny, it just looked more "skin-like" if that makes sense. It didn't look like foundation anymore, just looked like skin. This foundation offered a flawless finish to the face and was not cakey at all. For the concealer, I actually just used a concealer brush to buff in more foundation in my dark circles.

On my cheeks is the Pink with a Purpose Cheek Pop ($24) - every $4 from the purchase of this goes to support The Breast Cancer Research Foundation.

On the eyes:
Clinique - Very Honey Holiday Eye Palette ($44) - I purchased this during the Sephora VIB Rouge sale and while the reviews on this are so mixed, I still wanted to try it out myself and see how I truly feel. There are comments that this isn't pigmented enough, well I disagree. The dark colors really deliver and they are buttery and pigmented. You have to realize that alot of the colors in this palette are lighter toned, so in the swatches below you will see that alot of them are light. The dark ones show up and look great and that's whats important. There's a good mix of light colors, shimmer, TRANSITION colors (key!!) and darker shadows. This really is an all-in-one palette and I do feel comfortable enough taking this on vacation with me or in my travel bag to achieve any look I want. My go-to's are purple or brown neutral looks so this is perfect.

On the upper left photo, you will see swatches of the Clinique High Impact Custom Black Kajal liners* ($21 each)  - from Top to bottom, the colors are: Blackened Brown, Blackened Green, Blackened Blue and Blackened Black. These when applied, gives you a few seconds of playing/smudging time. After that, it stays put, and doesn't budge. These are great along the waterline or to form a small liner along the lash line, however it is hard to achieve a very defined wing on your eye. That can easily be fixed with a make-up wipe or a liquid liner if you really wanted it. I used this to create my wing liner and I had no issues - while it wasn't as crisp and defined as I wanted, it still did the job.

Clinique Lash Power Flutter-to-Full Mascara* ($28) - I highly suggest you give this mascara a go. I actually gave one of these to my friend and she loved it as well. While the concept of this mascara is a bit gimmicky - it is supposed to be able to be cuztomized to your liking - there are three settings, if you twist the barrel, it can step up your lash look, from flutter to full. I tried all three settings and didn't notice a difference but the formulation itself is AMAZING. I do not have to curl my lashes before hand and it still curls my lashes, adds volume and finally lengthens as well. It doesn't smudge, yet removes really easily with micellar water.

Lastly, on the lips is the Clinique Pop Lip Colour and Primer in Plum Pop ($23) - their lipsticks are buttery, pigmented and moisturizing - this is a beautiful mauvey shade that compliments most neutral looks - i.e. purple, brown eye looks! it's my go-to!

I hope you enjoyed this one-brand make-up look!
Until next time, XO - M.

October 2016 Favorites

October Makeup Favorites
Tarte - Shape Tape Concealer
I really do understand the hype around this concealer - it's high coverage, doesn't crease out of control and stays put. The one problem is that we can't pick this up in Canada and it is an ulta exclusive. I picked this up in the color tan and while it is too dark for me now, I mix it with my lighter concealers to make it work because I do enjoy it that much.

Guerlain - Lingerie De Peau Foundation*
Ah, my new favorite liquid foundation. If you want to read my full review just click here. It offers you a beautiful satin finish that is dewy and is buildable. It lasts all day without become greasy or shiny in my problem T-Zone area - if you see the pictures on the post, you can see that it just makes me look airbrushed.

Rodial - Instaglam Compact Deluxe Banana Powder*
I love that Rodial named this Instaglam - with the age of selfies, you always have the desire to look your best for social media. This banana powder is pigmented, buttery and works well to set my undereye concealer.

Vichy - Teint Idol Bronzer*
This bronzer may look kind of boring in the pan, like it's too light to do anything but once applied you can see that it somehow works. I have a feeling it self adjusts? But it just works to make you look like you have some glow - like you just came back from vacation and your tan is still trying to linger around and give you that beach vibe.

Clinique - Lash Power Flutter-to-Full Mascara*
I LOVE this mascara! Yes, it's considered high end in terms of price, but it works really well to separate and lift the lashes, keeping them curled at the same time. While it is supposed to be a 3-step or 3-way application process, meaning you can adjust the amount that is being applied by selecting the level you want by turning the mascara wand - I think that part is a little gimmicky. I frankly don't really see a difference between the 3 "modes" but I will buy this again only because it makes my short lashes look so lengthy and volumized/curled.

Marcelle - Ultimate Fringe Effect Mascara*
I think that this is a pretty close dupe to the one mentioned above - the mascara wand on this mascara is different from what I've seen before - the wand is an elongated triangle with a comb on it, plastic. It works really well to separate the lashes, add volume and curl. This would also be a definite repurchase.

KIKO - Blush Cocoa Shock (Silky Rose and Mauve)
I picked this baby up when I went for work to the states at KIKO. The blushes smell like vanilla / white chocolate and smells good enough to eat. I like to use the darker more mauvey pink (right side) on the cheek and pop some color, (the left side) right in the middle. It's natural and gives me that perfect in from the cold outside look.

Face and Body October Favorites
LUSH - Lord of Misrule Shower Cream*
If you want my thoughts on the LOM shower cream, look no further and just click this link here - I definitely sing its high praises here. It's a perfect blend of spicy and sweet? I don't want to say sweet because it's not nausea cotton candy sweet, it's almost velvety. It leaves your skin silky smooth and is perfect to use to end your day.

BSpa - Salt Scrub - Pomegranate and Acai Berry*
This body scrub is so good that even my husband stole it and started using it as well - haha! The scrub is abrasive enough - and by abrasive I mean it in a good way, you actually feel it working. There's nothing worse than using a scrub and you're not sure if it's doing anything at all. This scrub also contained alot of oils and moisturizing components that helps to hydrate your skin. Finally, the scent is refreshing, crisp and just helps to lift the mood! I use this 2x a week.

L'Oreal - Revitalize Bright Reveal*
I got sent this as part of the Influenster try-out and I'm glad I got sent this to try because to be honest, I wouldn't have bought this myself. This products helps to smooth out your skin and hydrate it as well, it creates a nice canvas for your make-up application and also helps to brighten it. Also, it is at a drugstore price, so you can't beat that.

Tata Harper - Illuminating Eye Cream*
Read all about the event recap here where I met Tata Harper herself. I have been using the face illuminating moisturizer everyday since the event and it has been a godsend. I think I've only broken out 2-3 times in the past few weeks and the scent helps to relax me. It brightens and adds a dewiness to my skin.

What were some of your October Favorites? I'd  love to hear all about them!
Until next time - XO, M.

Avon Holiday Mani To-Go with swatches*

Halloween is over and just like that, we're now at daylight savings time and the holiday stuff is everywhere on shelves at the mall, grocery stores etc. So here I am, hopping on that holiday band wagon to slowly bring to you some holiday gifting ideas! This week is a great stocking stuffer set with some polishes to complete a perfect at-home manicure.

This is the perfect stocking stuffer at $12 - a Glitter Manicure Kit! It's slim and compact and contains cuticle scissors, pusher, nail clipper and file as well as a pair of tweezers. It's portable and easy enough to slip into a purse or cosmetic bag within a purse to allow for convenience and easy access! It closes and is secured with a latch meaning the tools will not fly around inside your bag as well! I've gone ahead and popped this into my purse actually because sometimes you never know when you need a tweezer, or nail clippers for a hang nail etc. It's a nice to have for sure. Something you may or may not buy yourself, but something that will be appreciated by the individual you're gifting it to!

In addition to the manicure set, gifting some polishes would be a cute idea - 2 or 3 to help them achieve an at-home manicure and have their nails ready for the Holiday Season :) I always do my manicures at home now, it's just so much more budget friendly and you can switch it up whenever you want to!

Below you'll find three colors from the Gel Finish 7-in-1 Nail Enamel line. These polishes offer a high-gloss gel like finish (as the name suggests) and the 7 benefits included are: Shine, Gel-Like finish, vivid color, base coat, top coat, protection and strengthener.

For the purposes of full disclosure, while this 7-in-1 formula includes a base coat already, I like to put on a separate base coat to just protect my nails and offer a better "foundation" for the polish application and just in case to prevent yourself further from staining.

These polishes do pack a color punch - all of the below swatches are with one coat only - that's all you need, seriously! My favorite color would have to be Envy, a shimmery emerald forest green, followed by Roses are Red, a beautiful holiday red and lastly Glimmer. The formulation on Glimmer contains denser glitter particles which means that the removal process is just a bit more stubborn.

Left to Right - Envy, Glimmer and Roses are Red ($9 cad each)

I highly suggest that you pick up these polishes - at $9 they are very reasonable and offers a gorgeous salon-like manicure but at the comfort and budget-friendly method of your own home!

Until next time, XO - M.

Dior Holiday 2016 - Tutorial ft. 5 Couleurs Splendor Eyeshadow Palette 776 Precious Embroidery

The Holiday season is quickly approaching and it is becoming quite evident now with all the holiday decorations that are emerging and holiday themed items that are launching at retail stores and hitting shelves. This is my favorite time of the year as most of my favorite beauty brands release limited edition or Holiday value sets that are only available during this time. That being said, if you ever feel like trying something new, or to simply splurge on a luxury item for either yourself, a friend or family, this is your time, the best time.

One of the brands that always creates gorgeous and immaculate Holiday limited edition collections and packaging is Dior Cosmetics. They scream luxury and honestly, if you just see the pictures below of the products from the Holiday 2016 Collection, you can see the amount of care or precision they put into their packaging.

In this post, I have included pictures of a few of the products from the collection, however my main focus is on creating a make-up look featuring the:
2) the lipstick Diorific Mat Velvet Colour Lipstick in 880 Fascination  ($46 cad).

These babies are flying off the shelves and the links I have included above still contain some stock left for purchase (good luck! - sorry if it's sold out by the time you read this post!). The palette that I received for review is a blend of beige, lilac and violet - the other palette available for purchase (colour palette 66) contains more silver, black and grey tones. Both palettes contain a golden beige/champagne toned shadow though. I'm so glad I received this one (776) as the colours definitely speak to me more.

I've included pictures here of the items received for consideration and review just as a preview for you readers. Like I mentioned above, the review is focused on the make-up look this time. I will be posting subsequent posts relating to the polishes and I'll create a separate look featuring the pink lipstick.

As you can see, the packaging is ultra luxurious - the gold lipstick bullet casings and even the eye shadow palette comes housed in a velvet pouch to prevent any scratching.

The 5-pan shadow palette features a beautiful sequin embossed pattern that straight looks like real sequins from afar. I don't even want to ruin it by dipping my brush in it however I also want to use it - ah, the dilemma!

The look I created is probably going to be the one I will wear ALOT this holiday season. The violet hues of this shadow palette, paired with the deep plum berry lipstick is a pair made in heaven. For even special occasions, like in the look I created, I added some silver glitter liner to add a more festive touch. It's subtle but when you blink it'll sure catch the attention of people :)

I started off by (let's say clockwise starting from the top right is 1(pink), 2(white) 3(dark grey), 4(champagne) and 5(taupe) - shade 1 all over the lid and popped some of shade 2 in my inner corner. I then added shade 5 in the crease area the taupe is a really nice crease color and also used some of that on my lower lash line and finally used shade 3 the dark violet toned grey onto the outer V for some definition.

I used a pair of lashes from Esquido and the glitter liner is from Lit Cosmetics.

The eyeshadow lasted a full day without any creasing. I applied the shadow on top of my usual shadow primer base which is super budget friendly from Essence at the drugstore. The colors and shadows are creamy, pigmented and long-lasting.

The lipstick is slightly fragranced but nothing obnoxious - it delivers a beautiful color application with one swipe only as you can see in the picture below. If you want more of a tint you can just gently dab it on your lips and it can help you achieve that result.

Pictured above is the DIOR Diorific Velvet Colour Lipstick in 880 (left) 440 (right). 880 is a deep berry plum color and 440 is almost a pink coral shade which helps me look more tanned somehow. The lipsticks and the packaging it is housed in gives it a really luxe feel as well as a good weight to it. Out of the two, I would suggest opting for 880. It's gorgeous!

I hope you enjoyed this post featuring some of the items from the Dior Holiday 2016 collection! Until next time, XO - M.

It seems like its been a while since my last empties post, however it has only actually been a month and well ... I've used up a lot of products and thought that once again, I should share my thoughts with you! While most of them are empties, there are some that I just couldn't finish in time before it went bad, or some were just misses. Continue reading to see what made it to my must re-purchase list!
