June 2015 Favorites

For the month of June, I found my favorites to be centered around products that give me a beautiful bronzed and glowy look. For some reason, I have narrowed down the products used and simplified my routine for my everyday look.

Here is the list of my favorite products this month, I'll also include a mini review as well:
1. Pureology - Colour Fanatic - Multi Tasking Hair Beautifier for Color Treated Hair
2. Aveda - Thickening Tonic
3. Colour Pop Eye Shadow - LALA
4. Clinique Colour Pop Cheek Blush - Heather
5. Lancome - Miracle Cushion Foundation
6. Charlotte Tilbury Air Brush Flawless Finish Powder - Medium
7. Charlotte Tilbury - Wonder Glow.
8. Hourglass Ambient Lighting Blush - Radiant Magenta
9. Dior Nude Tan Glow Enhancing Powder
10. Real Techniques - Buffing Brush from the Core Collection
11. B. Kamins - Night Cream

This night cream does wonders for my tired, lack of sleep-ed skin. It's pretty rich, so a little goes a long way. I love this cream, and I'm not just saying it. It has the ability to help diminish the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. While I do not currently have any fine lines or wrinkles, I believe in preventative measures vs. treating when I see it (because that will be much harder to fix). Also, this cream contains tiny little blue spheres which are actually capsules of anti-oxidant Vitamin E that are heat-activated and time-released, which helps to moisturize and repair delicate skin. Finally, it is also enriched with skin plumping soluble collagen. All these amazing properties of the cream make my skin look plump, moisturized and radiant in the morning, like I actually did get enough sleep the night before.

There are 21 different benefits to this spray that are listed. While I cannot say it helps with all 21, it is an amazing product. It smells absolutely amazing and I've used it as a hair deodorizer as well. It has helped protect my hair from heat damage as well as protecting the recent coloring I did at the professional salon (I did a light ombre color for the summer).

I had originally got a sample to try the Thickening Tonic from Aveda, and went back to purchase the full sized bottle because I liked it so much. I have really baby fine hair, that lacks volume. However, when I spray this on the crown of my scalp, it really helps with oomph-ing up that area. I spray about -2 sprays, toss my hair around with my fingers and blow dry. This is a temporary solution. I will be doing a post shortly, on products I have used to help with my hair growth which have actually worked on me.

I actually prefer this blush over the regular ambient powders from Hourglass. This combines the best of both worlds, Blush + the famous Ambient Powders to give you a beautiful glow from within look and a sheer wash of color.

Hard Candy Cosmetics Haul

Once a month or so, I like to visit the drugstore to see what's new in the world of drugstore makeup. You never know what you can find in those aisles. I usually have dinner with one of my girlfriends, and then we head to the Walmart nearby and do an hour or more of swatching, playing and purchasing.

It's usually a hit or miss for me when I go, this time I fell in love with Hard Candy products, and at a ridiculously reasonable price, I didn't have to feel guilty for breaking the bank.
For those of you who use Make Up Setting sprays, you will know how pricey they get - they can range anywhere from $30-$46+. This Hard Candy one is under $7 and has the same claims as its higher end competitors.

After putting it to the test during the hotter summer days, I would have to say that it does do its job. By that, I mean that it does the exact same thing, as my $36 spray, so if I had to choose, I would repurchase this over and over again.

The Hard Candy setting spray smells faintly of cucumbers, it is refreshing. The only negative thing I have to say, is that the mister isn't fine enough. Don't get me wrong, your makeup won't be ruined and running down your face if you spray this on your face. I'm just saying that it isn't as fine as the ones I've used before. However, if I'm saving $29, I really don't mind.

For those of you who have been following Hard Candy since the 90's you would remember that the original packaging was the one on the right, with the jelly ring. I remember always wanting one when I was in grade 5?, but back then, it was a higher end brand and I didn't have the money for it.

This year, Hard Candy released a reboot of their original packaging, and I knew I had to get one at least and I got it in a bright orange color, perfect for summer, especially on a pedicure.

Normally, their polish is packaged like the bottle on the left, I got a pretty pastel baby blue, however when applied - it quickly changed colors and looked a bit greyish baby blue. I think I will save this color for fall.

Finally, I picked up two lipsticks at around $4 each. It actually says that it is a "plumping serum lipstick", however I did not really see or feel any plumping effect. The best part about these lipsticks, besides its amazing price, was the texture/quality. They glide on effortlessly while packing alot of color and pigment. It does not settle into the fine line of your lips, but adds a perfect glossy shine. The scent of these lipsticks smell slightly sweet, but not obnoxious or nauseating.

What have been some of your drugstore hauls lately? What are you looking forward to?

June 2015 Ipsy Bag

This month's Ipsy Bag theme is "Swim into Beauty", perfect for summer! The contents of my bag include the following:

1. J.Cat Beauty - Liptitude Hydrating Lip Stain
2. Smashbox Cosmetics - Photo Finish Foundation Primer
3. Aurora - Intensive Eyeliner Pen
4. Altchek MD - DePuff Eye Pads
5. tre'StiQue - Mini Shadow Crayon

Most of these products have pretty good lasting power. The Shadow Crayon didn't budge all day on my lids until removed with makeup remover, and same with the Lip Stain and Eyeliner.

I love that the Eyeliner had a very precise felt tip that was quite firm, allowing for a sharp cat-eye to be created.

I decided to use the contents of this month's Ipsy Bag to create a fresh makeup look for you all.

 Products used on the face:
1. Primer - Smashbox Photofinish Primer Water
2. Foundation - Lancome Cushion Foundation
3. Concealer - Maybelline Fit Me
4. Setting Powder for Concealer - Laura Mercier Brightening Powder
5. Eyeliner - Aurora *this month's Ipsy Bag Product
6. Brows - NYX Eyebrow gel - first time using it, not sure how I think.
7. Lips - J.Cat Beauty - Lip Stain * Ipsy Bag Product
8. Mascara - Maybelline Lash Sensational.
9. Blush - Clinique Color Pop - Heather

Also, I found a dupe of this product, so for those of you who are looking for a wayyyyy cheaper dupe from Laura Mercier Caviar Stick - Rose Gold, you can turn to tre'StiQue. I saw on the site, that they are selling two shadow crayons with a lipstain for $12, that's a steal.

For those of you who subscribed? What'd you get? For those of you who havent, do you currently subscribe to any services? And would you consider Ipsy?

14 Day Skinny TeaTox Review

This is my first review from BrandBacker, and I must have to say, I love the concept. When you apply for BrandBacker, you have access to try out products when posted on the site. You apply for the campaign/product you would like to review and wait to hear back if you have been accepted. Afterwards, the product is sent to you and you have a specific amount of days to review and post your thoughts about the product.

Moving on, as part of my decision to live a healthier and balanced lifestyle, eating cleaner, exercising etc. I decided to give Skinny Teatox* a try..

I received 1 pack of the 14 Day evening Tea, which contains 7 packets, you are supposed to drink that every other day as it is a stronger, more potent version. A packet of the 14 Day Morning tea and a cute strawberry silicone tea infuser.

First off, it comes with a very detailed disclaimer pamphlet, advising you of the side effects with the Nutrition Facts of the product. There is also a section of the pamphlet that tells you what types of foods you should be eating/avoiding when drinking this tea which you may find helpful and an overall benefit to living a healthier lifestyle.

I decided to use my cute little mug to test out my tea :)

My thoughts:
This tea is POTENT and it is STRONG. What I mean is that on the first day of trying this, I had pizza, and boy did this tea punish me. The tea contains a natural laxative, so it was essentially telling me "Hey Miranda, I'm getting rid of this CRAP you just ingested, so let me send you to the washroom". It was not a good start to trying out this new product.

This tea makes sure thst you know what you are doing, and to be mindful of what you are actually ingesting or else your body isn't going to like you too much. I can really see how this works, and how this encourages you to eat healthier. The tea tastes great, it doesn't taste too woodsy or herbally and making sure you don't oversteep it, can also help lessen the potency or strength of the product.

I will continue to try this product out, and see where it takes me in a few months when combined with exercise. I am already eating healthier, so the effects aren't as harsh as before. Like I said, the cleaner you eat, and the cleaner your digestive system is, the less likely you will need to make a run for the washroom! This is a great product to incorporate into your life no matter whether you want to be a bit less bloated before an event, or clean up your eating habits.

Have you tried a detox tea before? What are your thoughts?

Until next time, XO - M.

Murale - Big Beauty Exchange Event & Haul

Once or twice a year, Murale will have a Big Exchange Event whereby you can exchange your Shoppers Optimum Points for extra cash redemptions. What would normally get you $170 in free stuff (redeeming 95,000 pts) will get you $210 which is an extra $40 for free! I usually wait for this event, to redeem my points for more makeup :) because, hey, what girl ever has enough makeup? not me! This year, I also had a $30 gift card to spend, so in total I had $240 of freebies to get.

I thought I'd share my little haul with you all!

List of items I got were:
1. Chanel Joues Contraste Powder Blush - 160 Innocence
2. Clarins - Instant Light Lip Balm Perfector - 01
3. Stila - Stay all day liquid lipstick - Aria
4. Stila - Aqua Glow Watercolor Blush - Rosewater
5. Smashbox - Photo Finish Pore Minimizing Primer
6. Clinique - Clinique Pop lip color and primer - Plum
7. Eve Lom - package of 3 Muslin Cloths
8. Skyn Iceland - Glacial Face Wash (for hubs)
9. BKR Water Bottle - Cupcake, this is a glass water bottle with a small opening so when you drink it, the likelihood of this pouring all over you is small. Also, it has a silicone casing which helps prevent shattering when you drop it.

I love using Muslin Cleansing Cloths now when removing facial cleanser or a mask from my face. It acts as a natural exfoliant and really helps to polish my face without being overly abrasive.

Top to bottom: Clinique, Clarins and Stila

Tip for you:
If you want to earn points faster, shop only on 20x the point days. In addition, combine your purchases at Shoppers with your RBC Shoppers Mastercard and optimum card, you get more points that way.

Until next time - XO, M.
