Review & Swatch: Almay Goddess Gloss*

Almay has graciously sent me 5 of their 8 Goddess Glosses for review. It has been a while since I last tried any products from Almay so it's pretty exciting! To me, Almay has always specialized in products that made you look effortlessly natural, so to see that they have come out with new lipglosses with holographic formulations is great!

These lipglosses are made with pomegranate, grape and raspberry oils and is hypoallergenic and fragrance free. What I enjoyed about this product was that it didn't feel sticky and heavy like alot of glosses that I have previously tried. This one is hydrating and smooth and didn't make my lips feel tacky like glue.

These lipsticks can be wear alone for a sheer and subtle tint of holographic color on the lips, or you can wear this over lipstick and transform that. You can definitely be creative and wear different colors on different lips as well!

The first three shades from left to right are pretty sheer, however the last one, Rainbow gives me serious happy vibes. It is absolutely beautiful and is bold and fun without being too in your face! I truly love these glosses, and well in all honesty I don't think you need to run out to get everyone as the lighter shades do look quite similar except some may shift green or gold etc, which is not entirely very noticeable, so I highly suggest that you get one light one and definitely one bold one (like Rainbow!)

Until next time, XO - M.

Review & Swatch: Zoya Element Collection*

Zoya has launched its Element Collection which contains 12 fall-worthy shades ranging from a dusty rose pink to a dark aubergine hue that will surely suit any nail polish fan like myself. In addition, they have included two glitter polishes that reflects a beautiful foil finish which you shall see in the swatches below.

As per my usual nail swatch posts, I have labelled them by bottles and also have included nail swatches of them right below. Please note that all polish swatches contain two layers - however the cream finishes really only need one, especially the lighter colors - this is why I really love Zoya polishes because they deliver such opacity in their formulations and are truly a high quality product.

For those of you who do not know, Zoya polishes contain a breathable BIG 10 FREE formulation, meaning it is safe for use by pregnant moms.

From left to right we have:
Donnie - Sangria (cream)
Rachael - mulberry (cream)
Leighton - aubergine (cream)
Gardner - a periwinkle magenta foil finish
Alyssa - cranberry (cream)
Rumor - mauvey pink pearl (shimmer)

From left to right we have:
Ruthie - raspberry rose pink (cream)
Jenna - rosey pink (cream)
Kendra - marsala (cream)
Maeve - concord grape (cream)
Devin - a steel blue which shifts to a multicolor dense foil finish.
Maryanne - rose tone pearl (shimmer)

This truly is a beautiful fall collection and my favorite shade would have to be Rumor, Donnie and Maeve. I highly suggest that you pick a few of these polishes up if possible! They are high gloss, pigmented and perform so well. I can go about 6-7 days without a chip, and sometimes more, and I cook, clean and take care of a baby :)

Until next time, XO - M.

Tutorial: Back to School with Brand New Makeup and Releases!*

With what feels like a blink of an eye, summer is coming to an end and that means it's back to school time. I still remember even in my later years of highschool that I started wearing makeup to school, but because it was a private school there were very strict rules about make-up, even things like nail polish and bra colors were very strict. Anyways, so I would always focus on neutrals - a tinted moisturizer or some powder and some light eyeshadow and mascara. Later on in university, I would always be in a rush to get myself ready that my makeup would be very simple as well, just put on enough to make myself presentable. So I hope that you will enjoy the below look I created for back to school because this is really something similar to what I would have done.

Also, I have listed out the products I have used in this tutorial below and have also included a small review of each item as a huge majority of the products, 7 out of the 10 are all brand new to me.

As you can see from the photos above, I kept the makeup very natural and focused on just adding some color to the face so I do not look so zombie-like.

Products used:
Primer: Estee Lauder -The Mattifier Shine Control Perfecting Primer + Finisher* ~ this is a definite go-to for summer, it keeps my face matte without drying it out or feeling tight. LOVE it!

Foundation/BB Cream: Laneige - BB Cushion Hydra Radiance SPF 50 (no.23 sand)* ~ I just received this from PR and this is a really great BB cream that also contains SPF (two birds with one stone! Yes!).  This color applied lighter than my usual skintone initially, but within 5-10 minutes it became half a shade darker and matched me perfectly. It felt cool and lightweight and I set it with a setting powder as I enjoy a smooth finish. It lasted a full day basically from 9-5ish and it made my skin look natural and just a better version of what it is. I would definitely wear this again when I'm out and about as my regular routine for light coverage.

Concealer: First Aid Beauty - Hello Fab Bendy Avocado Concealer (Light)* ~ this concealer is ultra lightweight, almost watery in consistency but offers a light to medium buildable coverage. It did not get patchy when I did a second layer as well so it was really appreciated. The shade light does lean a bit yellow toned though just an FYI. However, I honestly found that it covered my panda dark eye circles very well and because it was cooling, it helped a bit with the depuffing while being ultra moisturized.

Bronzer: Too Faced - Sweethearts Bronzer* ~ I LOVEEEE this bronzer! I wish I had discovered it earlier. Though on the pan it looks like there is a shimmer, honestly when you buff it onto the skin you just end up looking radiant and sunkissed, like you just got off the plane from a tropical paradise.

Blush: Tarte - Fairy Blush (limited edition)* ~ Tarte blushes can do no wrong, their formulations are one of the best and they have such a wide range of colors and lasts all day. They blend perfectly on the skin and do not look cakey or powdery no matter how much you put on. This limited edition package is everything, the star sparkles move around in the lid and you can take the blush out and replace it with another should you wish.

Highlighter: PIXI - Glow-y Gossamer Duo*~ This is a great drugstore highlighter that offers a sheer to in your face highlight.

Lip Balm: Dr. Hauschka - Lip Care Stick* ~ I regret not trying this out sooner as it does really moisturize the lips very well even after one application. It feels hydrating and light weight, kind of like a silky watery texture and has a very subtle herb fragrance that is spa-like. I would definitely purchase this as gifts for christmas as thats when most people need some TLC for the lips.

Liptint: YSL - Rouge Pur Couture (no. 12)* ~ this YSL lip tint leaves the lips tinted for a few hours even after the shine comes off. I like the applicator of this and they have so many colors and formulations its great. A great luxury splurge if you want a fancy lip tint.

Eyeshadow: Viseart - Tryst Eyeshadow Palette ~ I have always wanted to own a Viseart Palette but they are quite pricey, but when this came out which has my shades (purple and neutrals), I had to buy it. These are very pigmented, finely milled (there is some kick back when you dip your brush in the mattes), and do not crease. I would like to look into other palettes in the future for sure!

Brow product: Benefit - Precisely, My Brow Pencil Ultra Fine Shape & Design (no. 3) ~ Fine, precise and a hard formulation is great - it means that you can draw defined lines on the brow that mimic brow hairs. With a brow brush on the other end, this is an all in one package and the sleek packaging is great.

Eyeliner: IT Cosmetics - Superhero Liner*~ The felt tip is firmer than I'm used to in a liquid liner, however it is ultra black and pigmented and with the fine tip I can be very precise with how I apply it and just stay close to the lash line and do a small wing. It dries quickly and does not transfer and lasts all day.

Mascara: IT Cosmetics - Superhero Elastic Stretch Volumizing Mascara* ~ this has got to be my fav mascara, it lengthens and volumes and makes my thin and short little lashes look long and actually visible. I will definitely continue to repurchase this even though I do get sent mascaras by other brands! It's because I truly love this,

Until next time, XO - M.

Review: Mary Kay Botanical Effects Skincare Line*

I was recently sent the Botanical Effects Skincare line from Mary Kay for review and as an avid skincare lover, I was very intrigued to try out some skincare from them. In addition to this line, they also have ones dedicated to dry, normal and oily skin - all with their own cleanser, mask, facial spritz (almost like a toner), and moisturizer.

For this review/blog post, I will be focusing on the products in the photo - this specific line is aimed at those individuals who are not showing signs of aging but want to take care of it and keep it refreshed and nourished. The key ingredient in this skincare line is the dragonfruit and aloe ~ which means theres tons of antioxidants and vitamins, minerals and fatty acids.

What I really like about this skincare line is that it is free of sulfates, paraben, fragrance and is oil free. In addition, it won't clog pores and is suitable for those even with sensitive skin as it has been tested for skin irritations and allergies by dermatologists.

Above we have the cleansing gel ($21 cad), it contains coconut derived ingredients and works well to completely cleanse your face of any makeup without stripping it. I have included an image of the products on my hand below so you can see the consistency. It is lightweight and gel form and does not strip your skin at all - in fact your face is left feeling very refreshed and moisturized with a glow.

The invigorating scrub ($21 cad) contains fruit seeds that naturally help you to exfoliate your skin without irritating it. This isn't a necessarily very gritty exfoliator, there is more gel in ratio to the exfoliants, but it still works well enough to make you feel like it is indeed cleansing and ridding dead skin cells on your face as it feels a lot cleaner.

The refreshing toner ($21 cad) in addition to the dragon fruit extract, it also contains witch hazel which helps to add another cleansing component to the skin by removing oils, bacteria and closing the pores. It also helps with oil production on the face so I love it as I do get quite oily in the tzone for the summer months.

Lastly, *TIP* it is so important to not forget toner as it really does help to cleanse the face of anything the cleanser might not have picked up and it preps your skin for the rest of your skincare routine - i.e. your essence, serum and moisturizer.

The moisturizing gel ($21 cad) is said to keep your skin moisturized for at least 12 hours - and while I often already do my next cycle of skincare (i.e. night time skin routine regiment or shower etc), I do feel like it efficiently keeps my skin hydrated enough and it doesn't feel dry or irritated. As this is a gel formula, a little goes a long way - I use about a pea size and it is good enough for my entire face.

Until next time, XO - M.

Review & Swatch: Revlon Kiss Cushion Lip Tint & Colorstay Full Cover Foundation

Revlon has recently launched a few new items and I was graciously sent some of the Revlon Kiss Cushion Lip Tints for review as well as their newest foundation, the Colorstay Full Cover. Below you will find the 7 of the 10 lip tints swatched and applied and the foundation I'm wearing below in the photos is the foundation mentioned above. To start things off, the foundation is a matte full coverage foundation that is quite thick when dispensed from the squeeze tube.  To apply,  I squeezed the product on the back of my hand and used my finger to dot it on my face and then buffed it out with a brush. It was really full coverage as I actually didn't find myself needing concealer after to cover my panda circles. I only had to use some to highlight the area. I was thoroughly impressed with the product and found that it worked well with my oily combo skin. The foundation also didn't oxidize on me, which I really appreciate. As you can see from the photos below, my skin looks quite flawless and any uneven skin color on my face is covered by the foundation. There is no editing of the photos.

The cushion lip tints really come with a cushion tip - you twist the Revlon logo on the barrel and the product dispenses through the tip. Initially, it takes about 20 twists to get the product fully dispensed in the beginning and then it applies evenly on the lips. The cushion actually does a very good job of getting the product within the lip and does not bleed anywhere.

My favorite shades would have to be Pink IRL, Extra Violet  and Wine Trip! All the lip swatches above are done with one swipe. It does not bunch up or cause any patchiness.

For the rest of my face, I used the products below, a majority of the products are Revlon based as they did send me a few more products to try, so if you're interested in my thoughts of the product then keep reading below:

Primer: Estee Lauder - The Mattifier Shine Control Perfecting Primer + Finisher
Foundation: Revlon Colorstay Full Cover Foundation (330 Natural Tan)*
Concealer: Makeup Revolution Conceal and Define
Brows: Revlon Colorstay Brow Tint (710 Dark Brown)* ~ this was a fantastic product, it worked well to give my brows the shape and color it requires. The felt applicator was easy to use and the product stayed on all day and did not smudge.
Setting Powder: Soap & Glory - One Heck of a Blot
Eyeliner: Maybelline Eyestudio
Mascara: Revlon Volumazing ~ one of my new favorite mascaras - it gave me curl, volume and lengthening. It seperated my lashes beautifully and just made me feel comfortable enough to go without liner!

Until next time - XO, M.

Review, Swatch & Tutorial: Urban Decay - Born to Run Collection*

Urban Decay has done it again, it has launched a thoroughly beautiful collection called Born to Run. It contains three pencil liners, three lipsticks, a specialized packaging of their setting spray and of course the eyeshadow palette. My favorite of the entire collection would definitely have to be the eyeshadow palette - it is pigmented, buttery smooth and blends like a dream put the metallics pack a punch when applied. You can also spritz your makeup brush with some setting spray or water to make the shimmers look foiled on the lid. I have created four different looks for you below with this palette and I hope you enjoy them!

The lipsticks have two in the comfort matte formula, and one in metallic. The liners stay true to their existing formulation which is buttery smooth pigmented only needing one swipe to deliver the perfect amount of color - all the swatches you see below are with ONE swipe.

Review & Swatch: Mary Kay Brow Products*

Mary Kay has come out with some new brow products that will help you get them in shape - first we have the Precision Brow Liner, that comes in 5 different shapes and retails for $14 each. It is a retractable, firm and microtip pencil that does not require sharpening. I really like how firm it is as it allows you to draw fine lines on your brows and lets it look very natural. There are a variety of shades that suit everyone, however the dark brunette and black brown are quite similar as you can see below. The black brown is a shade cooler in tone.

Next, we have the Volumizing Brow Tint that retails for $14 as well. It has a very small barrel that contains microfibers that help to add volume and thickness to your brow. The formulation is a bit wetter than expected,  and brunette is actually very warm in tone and its a bit too light for me. I think that brunette shade is actually more suitable for someone with red hair because it is so warm. However, blonde, dark blonde and dark brunette are perfect. I will be passing on the blonde shades in these products to my friend, and for sure will continue using the dark brunette for myself.

Until next time, XO - M.

Review & Giveaway: Jason Dry Spray Deodorant*

JÄ€SÖN is a company that produces natural product since 1959 in California. Recently, they launched two new Dry Spray Deodorants that have been receiving some press like Allure for being the Best Natural Deodorant amongst its competitors. The two new scents are Fresh Cucumber and Soft Rose and the Deodorant is air-propelled delivering up to 24 hours of protection. What I truly appreciate is that the products do not contain aluminum, butane, parabens, pthalates, artificial colors or fragrances. I know from personal experience that aluminum irritates my armpits and causes red itchy and painful bumps, so having another deodorant in the market that doesn't irritate me is great.

The deodorant also surprisingly applies clear, we were sent the black tank top in the photo to see whether or not the product would transfer, and it didn't!

Fun fact, JÄ€SÖN means "healer" in Greek which would make sense as their products strive to use plant-based ingredients that are biodegradable and cruelty free. They create a wide variety of personal care products from haircare, hand soaps, body washes/lotions to tooth paste and mouthwash.

Each bottle retails for $14.99 each and can be purchased at Whole Foods, Loblaws, Well.ca and other selected natural grocers. For more information on the brand and other products they offer, you can visit their site here. I would love to try their toothpastes next as well as their apricot body washes!

I have been given the opportunity to giveaway one of each of these deodorants to one lucky winner! To enter, please visit my instagram page and find this post to see the details of entry!

Until next time, XO - M.

Summer Family Vacation & Fun at Blue Mountain Resort

It has been a long time since I had written a travel post as I was pregnant all of last year and taking care of a newborn really puts the idea of having a family vacation in the back of your mind.  However, now that Ethan is 6 months old I told my husband that I'm comfortable enough to go on a family vacation to just unwind and have some quality rest, relaxation and fun. The first place I immediately thought of was Blue Mountain Resort. For those of you who don't know, they are so much more than just a ski resort in the wintertime. In the summer, they have so many outdoor activities you can do with your friends and family, from golfing, mini-golfing, to riding on the gondola and canoe-ing, all the activities are listed here

For those of you who don't know, Blue Mountain Resorts holds a very special place in my heart as my husband proposed to me there. He got a suite for us after having picked me up from the airport from visiting my best friend in Calgary, drove me to Blue Mountain, checked in and cooked all of my favorite meals there. Afterwards, he proposed to me and ever since then, we have gone back a few times with our friends in the winter for skiing and me with my girlfriends a few years back ~ I had written about it here if you're interested in reading it.
What is great about Blue Mountain is that they have two lodging areas that are dog friendly - the Blue Mountain Inn and The Westin Trillium House. The Blue Mountain Inn offers great value in terms of accommodation. Call me sentimental, but I really wanted our first family vacation to be our entire family - that includes furbaby Bentley as well!

The cost is lower at the Inn and the lodging accommodations are excellent. They recently completed a multi-million dollar renovation project and everything has been upgraded, especially the rooms. They have an excellent restaurant on-site called The Pottery, which you can read more about below, and even have individual hot tubs outdoors all year round where you can just sit back and relax in. The Inn is only a few minutes walk from the main village area and there is also a shuttle bus you could take for free (when you're a guest of the hotel/inn) that takes you right to the village if you wanted to. Parking is free in the main village area until 2am I believe? and parking at the Inn was free.

I chose to stay here with my family as I could leave Bentley in the room unattended (so long as you do have a crate) and also it was kinder to my wallet. The Westin Trillium is an upscale luxury resort and you cannot leave your pet in the room unattended, you would have to make arrangements with the hotel prior to arriving to have someone in their staff to come babysit your furbaby :) I do one day want to stay at the Westin as it would be such a great splurge, however right now on that EI maternity leave pay, it just wouldn't be too smart.

After we checked in to our room, we decided to head over to the main village area and walk around and have dinner ~ I have never been able to take Bentley to a restaurant before, and it was so great that a majority of the restaurants there allow dogs, they just have to be outside. Most of them also provide waterbowls for the furbabies which is so thoughtful!
For the first night, we went to Camino Taco for dinner, their guacamole was DELICIOUS as was the margarita, I could have drank two but I held back! For the tacos I would recommend the Barbacoa which is a braised beef that was very tender and flavorful. I was not a fan of the Korean Fried Chicken as it tasted nothing like the true Korean Fried Chicken, it seemed like they just put on the red pepper paste sauce as an afterthought to make it "korean". The fish taco was quite greasy and wasn't great, the batter was too thick. My husband had the Barbacoa burrito bowl which was well worth its money as the portion was huge for $13. The tacos I had were $6 each and they had a special which was 3 for $16 but you had to get THE SAME three tacos... which was a bit silly.

For dessert, we HAD to go to BeaverTails, it's literally a tradition of going to Blue Mountain - the trip isn't complete until I have one and I always get the classic cinnamon sugar one...mmm...
The next day, we slept in and then went to the village for lunch at Firehall Pizza Restaurant. Again, I had to have a Margarita (yes they are my favorites!) and we had the Shrimp Pasta Scampi and Spanakopizza which were both very delicious. The pizza had basil pesto, spinach, feta, goat cheese, garlic and caramlized onions.
Later that afternoon, I had the ultimate relaxation retreat at The Scandinave Spa. Again, this is tradition - I always love to go to this spa when I go to Blue Mountain. If you haven't experienced this spa before, you really do have to go. You can easily spend hours there just removing yourself from the distractions of life, being away from your cell phone, from the city and from any type of loud noises. All you hear is the sound of water and nature as you relax in the varied temperatured waters or sit by the fire pit or lie in the hammocks. My favorite is the Eucalyptus Steam room, it opens up your sinuses and just clears the mind. My husband took care of Ethan and Bentley for the afternoon as I took some time to work on myself... and I loved every minute of it. I highly recommend it, seriously! It's open all year round (except Christmas I believe) and I've been during the colder months before and it is still great.
That night for dinner, we were graciously treated to dinner at The Pottery Restaurant (located at the Inn) - this restaurant recently went through a complete renovation, just like the rest of the Inn. They work very closely with local suppliers in the Georgian Bay Region which means they consistently have fresh and in season foods with a changing menu.
For appetizers, we decided to try the Beet Variation ($11), Roasted Bone Marrow ($12) and Caeser Salad ($13). My favorite was the beet salad - it was so light and refreshing and had a perfect balance of beet to goat cheese, berries, oranges and nuts. It also has some pesto and taro root chips to finish the dish. I highly recommend this appetizer! The Bone Marrow was delicious, the garlic oil really complimented the marrow which you ate with the crostini, I just really wish that there was more of it ~ It was quite shallow so I think we only got one tablespoon worth, not enough to use up with the crostini. It was honestly still so tasty though! Just.. want....MORE..mmmm...! The Ceaser Salad was okay, the romaine lettuce you can definitely tell was farm fresh - I just hoped for more of a garlic kick to the dressing :) The egg was cooked to perfection as was the pancetta crisp.
For the main, my hubby had the special that day which was the lamb and I had my usual go to - the prime rib ($30). Both of the mains were cooked as requested - medium rare ~ mine looks a bit darker as they put the merlot jus on the prime rib directly. The yorkshire pudding was light, airy - crisp on the outside and tender and fluffy on the inside.

Lastly, the dessert which was unexpectedly the BEST part of the meal. Originally, I had only wanted the rose water creme brulee ($10), however our server had insisted that we try the Baked Phyllo Wrapped Cheesecake ($12) which has whisky caramel roasted apples, house-made granola and a caramel sauce on top of the cheesecake. This cheesecake handsdown was the BEST thing I had that day - think baklava and cheesecake making a baby - and you get this. I would literally drive all the way here to have this again and go to the scandinave spa... hhaha!

Lastly, to cap off the end of my trip, the next day I had a facial at the Kalola Spa within the Inn, I was treated to the Ultimate Facial which lasted 75 minutes by the wonderful spa owner, Carol. It was SO relaxing, I received two personalized masks, had deep cleansing done which included extractions and exfoliation while also getting a relaxing massage. The facial is said to contain botanical products that brighten and firm your skin while boosting collagen. You can totally tell from the before and after facial pics of me below that my skin looks rejuvenated, plumped and hydrated. It has more life to it and just felt more youthful and glowing! I also got some items from the store, and will definitely be posting a review of them soon! I am currently still in the process of trying everything out!

I would like to thank Blue Mountain for the most amazing dinner, Carol for the facial and want to really emphasize how great Blue Mountain is for a getaway! It is only about a 1.5-2 hour drive from Toronto and being able to bring my furbaby along meant the world to me. I look forward to so many more vacations to come here and making it a tradition to come back every year!

Until next time, XO - M.

Review: Sea Berry Therapy - Polishing Facial Cleanser and Hydrating Face Serum*

SIBU Sea Berry Therapy has recently rebranded itself to Sea Berry Therapy and I was sent two items to try out. Being a fan of Sea Buckthorn Oil (because of the Fresh Seaberry Nourishing Cream I've raved about for 3 years on this blog now) I am well acquainted with the healing properties of it. If you want to learn more about the company and the oil itself, you can click here.

The two products that I was sent are:
1. Polishing Facial Cleanser ~ this cleanser is lightweight and works well to cleanse the skin of dirt, oils and make-up. I typically don't wear mascara everyday so I cannot attest to how it removes mascara but it did a thoroughly effective job in removing foundation, eyeliner etc. The cleanser contains small biodegradable jojoba beads that exfoliate the skin and rids it for dead skin cells. It smells very refreshing, a faint citrus scent and wears off quickly and is not overwhelming. My skin felt very cleansed and hydrated after without feeling any residue or dryness.

2. Hydrating Face Serum ~ This serum is packed with Hyaluronic Acid (my favorite for hydration), Seabuckthorn Oil and has the same scent as the cleanser. It absorbs quickly on the skin so you won't feel any weight on the skin. In addition, a little drop goes a long way, in the swatch below, you can very well use it for two applications.

The product I really want to try out would be the Miracle Stick as it seems like an all in one product to really keep in the house - it helps with sunburn, windburn, cracked heels, cuticles, eczema, cuts, wounds and insect bites/rashes. It obviously contains the organic sea buckthorn oil and also is made with a coconut oil base.

Until next time, XO - M.
