When I traveled earlier this year to the Dominican, I had considered writing a "what's in my travel beauty bag" post, however I never got around to it. This time, since I was travelling for work, I decided to write about my tips + tricks on packing for a short trip as well as what was in my beauty bag (plus this post came as a recommendation) !
I find that when you are travelling, it is a MUST to pack light. If I was going to pack everything I actually needed, I would need multiple suitcases. In order to narrow down to what I should actually bring, I find that it is the true determination as to what I really actually value/like. Think about it, I am only going to be using these few things for the next few days/week, it better hold up to my expectations. Therefore, I only pack the best of the best, the items that I know will never let me down and of course, I pack something neutral, nothing too colorful or crazy.
So here goes, the following are items that I have brought with me this time around:
1. Charlotte Tilbury - Third Edition Makeup Bag - LOVE this! It's SUPER spacious with a divider within as well.
2. Stila - Perfectly Poreless Putty Perfector* - To be honest, I really hope they never discontinue this product. It is such an innovative foundation, it feels like a putty and is totally travel friendly. You use the foam applicator pad inside to apply and even though no matter how much you swipe the product and you feel like you don't make a dent in the product, you actually have more than enough to give your face a flawless finish. It literally makes me look airbrushed and I just throw it in my purse for any touch-ups.
3. Urban Decay - Beached Bronzer - gives you a natural glow without looking like an oompa-loompa!
4. Maybelline - Concealer - a good drugstore concealer that doesn't disappoint. Offers a medium coverage, but buildable and is a good match to my skintone.
5. Marc Jacobs - Roleplay - Picked this up recently at the VIB Rouge Sephora event. It's a natural and neutral lip color that gives a sheer wash of color and gives you that "my lips but better" moments.
6. Anastasia Brow Wiz - Chocolate - This is always reliable, I actually brought it because it was near the end of its life cycle and I could toss it while I was there.
7. Clio - Waterproof Pen Liner- You must try this liner! My sister in law picked this up for me from her trip to Asia, but I found it on amazon for approx $13. Cheaper than alot of other similar liners you can find at Sephora. Offers a fine brush tip as well as an ultra pigmented black line that is a matte finish. I will be repurchasing this for sure when this one is out!
8. Too Faced - Brow Quickie (Universal Brunette)* - This gives a slight lighter tint to the brow to set it once you're done drawing them on your face :) It doesn't give a hard or crusty finish so it looks very natural.
9. Stila - Perfect Me, Perfect Hue Eye & Cheek Palette* - This palette is perfect for me. The neutral eyeshadows as well as two blush colors. Compact and sleek, great for travelling.
10. Sephora Dual Ended Travel Makeup Brush Set* - I tried to find a link to this on the Sephora website, unfortunately it may be sold out, however! Fear not, Sephora always restocks or releases similar items throughout the year, just need to keep an eye out. I rarely gravitate towards double ended brushes, however when travelling, it makes alot of sense. Again with the compactness and sleekness it's good for travelling and packing light.
Below: Sample Packets of Skincare, Makeup Wipes & Haircare
This is the biggest tip I can offer - while alot of people may think very little of sample packets or actually end up using it right away at home, I strongly suggest that you save them all up because it all counts. Bringing packets or deluxe samples of face washes, skincare and haircare means that you can use it and toss it while you're travelling. You no longer have to lug any bottles back and forth :) If you are worried about a specific brand and do not want to carry an assortment, you can always visit your favorite beauty counter and ask for any specific sample packets to take with you.
With respect to makeup wipes, I picked up this pack from Winners. Simple and does the job - I use these to remove my makeup at the end of the day before I head to the shower.
What are some of your favorite items to take with you while you're travelling? Sometimes if it is an extended trip I like to pack a few face masks as well. Please share some of your packing tips + tricks as well! I'd love to hear all about them!
Until next time, XO - M.
